If you are going to be buying or selling a house the first thing you should do is hire a real estate agent. A real estate agent will be able to help you find the home you want that is within your budget or ensure that you sell your house for a fair price. They can also be a tremendous help when it comes to paperwork and the legalities that go with buying and selling property. If you decide to hire a realtor, of course you’ll want the right one.
Search Locally
Whether buying or selling you’ll want a realtor local to the area, so the best place to start is by looking for realtors in that location.
You can browse the internet or real estate magazines to get an idea of local agents, or you may get real estate prospecting postcards in the mail with valuable information that will help you make a good decision.
You may also want to visit a local real estate agency to see what services are available to you.
Get Referrals
If you know anyone who has bought or sold a house recently, asking them about their experience is a great way to learn about local agents.
They can tell you about the firsthand experience which will give you a much deeper understanding than an online bio or review.
Conduct Interviews
Once you have found two or three realtors you think would be a good fit, it’s a good idea to conduct interviews with them, either in person or over the phone. This will allow you to ask specific questions and tell them about your unique situation so you can really get a feel for how they work and what they will and will not be able to do for you.
Finding a realtor may seem overwhelming at first, but when you break it down into steps it’s really quite a simple process that you may even find enjoyable.
